Hemp Lippie
Thursday, January 23, 2014
Hello! I hope you all are doing well!
As most of you know by now I love hemp oil!
I use it in healing salve, rejuvenating lotion, sunscreen, I use it in oil pulling, and I recently concocted a new toothpaste recipe with it! (I will share that recipe soon!)
I can't believe I didn't think of making a lip balm with it before now!
This lip balm is more glossy than my last recipe; to be honest it goes on smoother and lasts longer than my first lip balm recipe as well.
Which hemp oil do I use? Good question! I only buy Certified Organic/ non-GMO Hemp Oil email me for the details kayla@healing-salve.com
Notes:
-One batch of this recipe made several (around 15) tubes of lippie.
-Rosehip is an amazing oil for cosmetic use, and while you can still make this recipe without the Rosehip oil I suggest trying it. Rosehip is extra nourishing, smooth, and gives the overall recipe a silky feeling.
What do you think about this recipe? Leave a comment or post about it on facebook/ or twitter/ to let me know what you think about it! Thanks for reading! -Kayla

Week 3|Recipes with essential oils and soap!
This week in the challenge I want to share a few simple recipes that I use around my home in the place of the products I used to purchase that filled our home with toxin's.
I breath easier (literally) and have felt better since using these recipes to replace my once loved name brand products.
I've already shared my super simple 2 ingredient air freshener recipe, but this recipe is about refreshing your linens; i.e. curtains, pillows, cushions.
This next recipe is a definite staple around our home!
For the remainder of this post I want to share recipes from sites that I have personally used. These are recipes that work amazingly well and are really simple, check them out!

I've already shared my super simple 2 ingredient air freshener recipe, but this recipe is about refreshing your linens; i.e. curtains, pillows, cushions.
In a spray bottle with a fine mist atomizer mix 10 drops of lavender essential oil, peppermint essential oil, and water. Shake the mixture and spray linens lightly. Make sure to shake the bottle before you use it each time. Feel free
to print the label to use at your home
- This recipe is not only great for refreshing linens but it acts as a relaxing aromatherapy! Also fly's hate the smell of peppermint. We use it on the curtains in our kitchen during the summer to keep fly's out.
This next recipe is a definite staple around our home!
Foaming Hand Soap
Since I made this soap recipe I have had to refill our container several times, and honestly it’s nice to know people are using it.
For the remainder of this post I want to share recipes from sites that I have personally used. These are recipes that work amazingly well and are really simple, check them out!
Dusting Spray via Scratch Mommy
This non-toxic dusting spray is so easy and effective (and smells so yummy!), you have just got to make some.
Dish-washing Liquid via The Prairie Homestead
I loved the consistency of this dish soap–it’s thick enough to stick to the dishes, but not chunky.
Thank you all for reading, I hope you enjoy the awesome recipes I have shared here with you. If you loved the recipes I shared from Scratch Mommy and The Prairie Homestead let them know by leaving comments on their blog, and following their social networking sites!
I wanted to end this post a little differently.. tell me in the comments how this challenge is going for you at your home, and if there are any recipes you would like for me to cover in week 4. See ya then! =]
DYHChallenge: Week 2
Wednesday, January 8, 2014
Welcome to week 2!
This week we will be focusing on cleaning with baking soda. But first...
-Remember the floor cleaning recipe I said I would review last week, it works amazingly well! I was skeptical about using vinegar to clean the laminate wood floors in our kitchen and hallway only because I didn't want our entire house to smell like vinegar. The smell didn't last that long and to be honest it was much more refreshing than the chemical laden fabuloso our family was used to, and it worked so well I don't see us going back to the old product. Using vinegar is not only better for your health, it is SO much cheaper!
On to the baking soda!!
Why would you use baking soda when the vinegar solution works so well?
If you have areas that need a good scrub, tile, grout, porcelain sink or tub, etc. Baking soda is abrasive enough to get the job done without scratching the surface.
This is the soft scrub recipe I decided to use:
You will need:
-1 1/2 cups baking soda
-1/2 cup Dr. Bronner's Liquid Castile soap
-1 cup water
-10 drops each of Lavender and Lemon essential oils.
Combine the ingredients and store in a mason jar or squeeze bottle.
This recipe is an all natural soft scrub. Here is a label I made for my batch of baking soda scrub. Feel free to print it out and use it for yours.
How else can you use baking soda to clean your home?
I also use baking soda in my all natural air freshener. While this recipe does not cover odors it definitely gets rid of them. Your typical air freshener only covers the bad odor by blocking the scent receptors in your nose, the odor is still there you simply can no longer smell it.
When you use baking soda it traps the odor and the essential oil you choose will replace the odor. Check out that recipe here: 2 Ingredient Odor Solution.
Thank you all for reading! Next week we will go over all natural bleach and dish detergent! Let me know how you use baking soda to clean in your home in the comments section below!

Drain Cleaner Recipe by How We Flourish:
- 1 c baking soda
- 1 c vinegar
- 8 c water
Start by pouring the baking soda down the sink, then the vinegar. It will react. Let it sit, in the meantime heating the water to near boiling. After 5 minutes, pour the water down the drain. If you want, use this recipe to maintain a clean drain once a week or so. If it’s just maintenance, you can cut the baking soda and vinegar in half after the first application.
I also use baking soda in my all natural air freshener. While this recipe does not cover odors it definitely gets rid of them. Your typical air freshener only covers the bad odor by blocking the scent receptors in your nose, the odor is still there you simply can no longer smell it.
