Hemp Paste

Friday, March 28, 2014

I got an e-mail from my publisher today stating that my Authors copy was officially ready for print. Once I receive it and sign off on it saying that it is perfect my book will be ready for official printing!

So.. with the anticipation of the release of my book I wanted to share one of the recipes in it with you!

I've been using the Re-mineralizing toothpaste recipe for some time, and I can truly say that it works. Small cracks/ cavities in mine and my husbands teeth have literally vanished.

However, this recipe does taste a little bitter and because I love Hemp Oil so much and the makeup of Hemp is ideal for perfect human health I decided to make, try out, and share my review of a toothpaste made with Hemp oil!

Hemp Paste is perfect for the kiddo's, because it does taste better and doesn't have the tingly sensation; my little brother chooses it over the Re-mineralizing toothpaste. He uses it everyday!

Ingredients:
  1.  ½ cup of Coconut Oil

  2.  1/8 cup of Hemp Oil

  3.   1 Tablespoon Baking Soda

  4.  15-20 drops of Peppermint Essential Oil

Directions:
  1.  Mash the baking soda into the coconut oil with a fork or whisk.

  2.  Stir in Hemp Oil & Peppermint Essential Oil

  3. Place in container with small spoon or BPA free plastic squeeze bottle.

Notes:

 ·         Around our house we refer to this toothpaste recipe as “Hemp-Paste,” & yes it will be green. However it will not stain your teeth at all.

·         The nutrients in hemp oil are perfect for balanced oral health. The blend of Omega 3, Omega 6, antioxidants, and fatty acids are wonderful for healing damaged teeth and allowing them to naturally heal. Hemp is also anti-microbial and anti-bacterial.

·         Peppermint oil is also a wonderful ingredient for overall oral hygiene. Peppermint oil kills bacteria, helps to reduce plaque, and keeps your breath smelling minty fresh. If you are not a fan of peppermint toothpaste you can replace this ingredient with sweet orange essential oil or another oil of your choosing.

·         Baking soda is an excellent semi-abrasive ingredient which helps remove plaque and prevent gingivitis. If you prefer to leave the baking soda out, the option is yours. However, baking soda is also great for neutralizing your pH levels which is a huge benefit for your teeth and your overall health.

·         My teeth feel amazingly clean, as if I have just left the dentist’s office, and they feel so smooth and strong. They have gotten significantly whiter and brighter!

Non toxic cleaning products

Friday, March 21, 2014

Clean it up; with simple ingredients found here:

At the beginning of this year (2014) I ran a small challenge to help motivate you.. *cough* me.. to get rid of toxic products and find alternative recipes.

These recipes are SUPER simple, most only include a few ingredients.I am a beginner at all of this; and with a little help from a few of my blogger friends and a few age old recipes I have successfully been able to transform this area of my life. ... Let me tell you, this was an area I had been avoiding. But why?!? There are so many positive aspects to making your own cleaning products:
  • You can craft non-toxic recipes in your home
  • You probably already have the ingredients
  • You can totally customize the scent
  • You can take small steps by figuring out which recipes you actually need based off of the products you have been using and replace them.. as you go!
Without further adu; here are the links to the posts I wrote during the challenge. Did the challenge help others? I hope so; did they help my family. For sure! Tell me your thoughts in the comments section below!
  1. Week 1 | Cleaning with Vinegar.
  2. Week 2 | Simple Baking Soda Recipes.
  3. Week 3 | This is a mess that calls for some serious soap.
Labels I made specifically for the challenge, feel free to save and print. If you do not have label sheets on hand, just print out the label and use packing tape to stick it on the bottle!

Love Potion

Monday, March 10, 2014

A few weeks ago I told you I would be concocting new perfumes, fragrance oils, body sprays etc.. and this time I'm sharing one of my favorite blends of essential oils that just so happens to raise your libido and can be used as an aphrodisiac!! <3

To be honest when I first came up with this perfume I was mixing this blend because these are some of my favorite scents. I had no idea that they were so healing and romantically intense!

This spray smells amazing, and you can spray it on your pulse points (neck or the back of your wrist for example) or you can spray it onto your pillows to enhance the "mood" in the bedroom!

The blend is super simple:
Fill your container with witch hazel. Then add 20 drops of Rosemary Essential oil, 15 drops of Ylang-ylang Essential oil, and 10 drops of Patchoulli Essential oil.
This is the blend I use, you can adjust the ratio a little or add in 10 Drops of Clary Sage to change up the scent.

You can wear this as your daily perfume if you like, just because you spritz your wrist does not mean you will have men falling over you at the market.. The best part about this mixture is that it will smell different on each person that applies it.

The essential oils in this mixture work on the aromatherapy level to sooth any emotional tension you have around "love"; whether it is self love, or frustrations in relationships.

If you want to know more about raising your libido and how aphrodisiacs work check out this article.

Uplifting Fragrance Oil

Sunday, February 9, 2014

In the coming months I will be concocting several different types of perfumes, fragrance oils, and body sprays.

I used to be that girl who had to have the latest and greatest perfumes. I had so many scents I could choose a different one for each day if I wanted to. I had my favorites so I'm working to replicate those scents and create new scents that match my current style.

Do you remember the "Pamper Yourself Giveaway?"

One of the prizes was a full sized bottle of a fragrance oil that I have named 'Uplifting'.

The absolute best perk of using essential oils in your perfumes/ fragrances has to be the aromatherapy factor!

Uplifting Fragrance Oil is a simple blend of 100% Organic Extra Virgin Olive Oil with 15 drops of Lavender Essential Oil and 10 drops of Sweet Orange Essential Oil.

To make you simply fill the container of your choice with the Olive Oil (or carrier oil of your choice), drop in the essential oils, replace the cap & shake!

To use place a few drops of this fragrance oil on your wrists or the side of your neck.

The aromatherapy of this oil is.. well.. Uplifting!

I'm looking forward to sharing more recipes of the different perfumes, fragrance oils, and body spray blends that I have made with you!

Let me know which types of fragrances you like the best in the comments section below!

Hemp Lippie

Thursday, January 23, 2014

Hello! I hope you all are doing well!

As most of you know by now I love hemp oil!

I use it in healing salve, rejuvenating lotion, sunscreen, I use it in oil pulling, and I recently concocted a new toothpaste recipe with it! (I will share that recipe soon!)

I can't believe I didn't think of making a lip balm with it before now!

This lip balm is more glossy than my last recipe; to be honest it goes on smoother and lasts longer than my first lip balm recipe as well.

Which hemp oil do I use? Good question! I only buy Certified Organic/ non-GMO Hemp Oil email me for the details kayla@healing-salve.com

Notes:

-One batch of this recipe made several (around 15) tubes of lippie.

-Rosehip is an amazing oil for cosmetic use, and while you can still make this recipe without the Rosehip oil I suggest trying it. Rosehip is extra nourishing, smooth, and gives the overall recipe a silky feeling.

What do you think about this recipe? Leave a comment or post about it on facebook/ or twitter/ to let me know what you think about it!  Thanks for reading! -Kayla

Week 3|Recipes with essential oils and soap!

This week in the challenge I want to share a few simple recipes that I use around my home in the place of the products I used to purchase that filled our home with toxin's.

I breath easier (literally) and have felt better since using these recipes to replace my once loved name brand products.

I've already shared my super simple 2 ingredient air freshener recipe, but this recipe is about refreshing your linens; i.e. curtains, pillows, cushions.
In a spray bottle with a fine mist atomizer mix 10 drops of lavender essential oil, peppermint essential oil, and water. Shake the mixture and spray linens lightly. Make sure to shake the bottle before you use it each time. Feel free
to print the label to use at your home
  • This recipe is not only great for refreshing linens but it acts as a relaxing aromatherapy! Also fly's hate the smell of peppermint. We use it on the curtains in our kitchen during the summer to keep fly's out.

This next recipe is a definite staple around our home!

Foaming Hand Soap

Since I made this soap recipe I have had to refill our container several times, and honestly it’s nice to know people are using it.

For the remainder of this post I want to share recipes from sites that I have personally used. These are recipes that work amazingly well and are really simple, check them out!

Dusting Spray via Scratch Mommy
This non-toxic dusting spray is so easy and effective (and smells so yummy!), you have just got to make some.

Dish-washing Liquid via The Prairie Homestead

I loved the consistency of this dish soap–it’s thick enough to stick to the dishes, but not chunky.

Thank you all for reading, I hope you enjoy the awesome recipes I have shared here with you. If you loved the recipes I shared from Scratch Mommy and The Prairie Homestead let them know by leaving comments on their blog, and following their social networking sites!

I wanted to end this post a little differently.. tell me in the comments how this challenge is going for you at your home, and if there are any recipes you would like for me to cover in week 4. See ya then! =]

DYHChallenge: Week 2

Wednesday, January 8, 2014

Welcome to week 2!

This week we will be focusing on cleaning with baking soda. But first...

-Remember the floor cleaning recipe I said I would review last week, it works amazingly well! I was skeptical about using vinegar to clean the laminate wood floors in our kitchen and hallway only because I didn't want our entire house to smell like vinegar. The smell didn't last that long and to be honest it was much more refreshing than the chemical laden fabuloso our family was used to, and it worked so well I don't see us going back to the old product. Using vinegar is not only better for your health, it is SO much cheaper!

On to the baking soda!!

Why would you use baking soda when the vinegar solution works so well?

If you have areas that need a good scrub, tile, grout, porcelain sink or tub, etc. Baking soda is abrasive enough to get the job done without scratching the surface.

This is the soft scrub recipe I decided to use:

You will need:

-1 1/2 cups baking soda

-1/2 cup Dr. Bronner's Liquid Castile soap

-1 cup water

-10 drops each of Lavender and Lemon essential oils.

Combine the ingredients and store in a mason jar or squeeze bottle.

This recipe is an all natural soft scrub. Here is a label I made for my batch of baking soda scrub. Feel free to print it out and use it for yours.

How else can you use baking soda to clean your home?

Drain Cleaner Recipe by How We Flourish:

  • 1 c baking soda

  • 1 c vinegar

  • 8 c water

Start by pouring the baking soda down the sink, then the vinegar. It will react. Let it sit, in the meantime heating the water to near boiling. After 5 minutes, pour the water down the drain. If you want, use this recipe to maintain a clean drain once a week or so. If it’s just maintenance, you can cut the baking soda and vinegar in half after the first application.

I also use baking soda in my all natural air freshener. While this recipe does not cover odors it definitely gets rid of them. Your typical air freshener only covers the bad odor by blocking the scent receptors in your nose, the odor is still there you simply can no longer smell it.

When you use baking soda it traps the odor and the essential oil you choose will replace the odor. Check out that recipe here: 2 Ingredient Odor Solution.

Thank you all for reading! Next week we will go over all natural bleach and dish detergent! Let me know how you use baking soda to clean in your home in the comments section below!
