What is Vetiver

Monday, April 16, 2018

Vetiver is a hardy grass that originated in India but quickly spread around the world due to its versatility and is easily grown in any tropical environment. The oil is extracted through steam distillation. Due to the hearty nature of the plant harvesting and distillation it can be difficult and time consuming. Its hearty nature is what makes it such a valuable plant not just for its oil but many practical uses in construction and environmental preservation.
Some of the most popular uses of vetiver are:
Antiseptic, immune system stimulation, skin care, and arthritis.

Vetiver has been cultivated well into antiquity. It is a bunched grass that grows in large shoots. Its strong scent made it popular as a perfume, and strong shoots made it popular for rope and basket production.

Vetiver oil can be used aromatically, topically and internally. Its antiseptic and immune boosting properties make it an excellent choice for any type of wound care blend. Its skin care qualities are helpful in fighting anything from acne to vitiligo. You can put it in a perfume or a diffuser to help keep the air clean during those times when sickness is in the air. Add a drop to your cinnamon and honey mixture to fight a cough.

For emotional care Vetiver is known as a centering and grounding scent. If you need to connect to your emotions and explore your inner feelings Vetiver will get you started on your journey to inner self discovery. Just as its strong roots of the plant sink deep in to the earth let its heavy earthy smell bring you deep into yourself.
